FENESTRA WINERY’S ANNUAL “BARREL TASTING” WEEKEND (Feb. 14, 15 & 16th, 2009, noon to 5pm)

Barrel sample tastings will be at 12:30, 2:00 and 3:30pm (all three days)

Fenestra Winery will be hosting their 26th annual “Barrel Tasting” Weekend on February 14th, 15th and 16th from noon to 5pm, all three days. There is no charge for this event.

Guests can get a taste of the future at this Valentine’s and President’s Day weekend, and sample un-released wines right from the barrel. Winemaker Brent Amos and Owner Lanny Replogle will be available to talk about the wines as guests taste, and can also answer any questions they may have.

Barrel samples will include 3 pairs of wine: two 2007 Malbecs (Lodi and Livermore); two 2006 blends (one from Iberian varietals and the other with Bordeaux varietals); and old Ports from 1998 and 1999 vintages. “The barrel sample wines have not even been bottled yet,” says Amos, “and some are still awaiting label approval, so it’s fun for everyone to get a sneak-peek at what’s coming up in 2009.”

“People really enjoy learning behind-the-scenes facts about the wines,” says Co-owner Fran Replogle. “It gives them a better appreciation of the wines, and makes for a great conversation starter when you open a bottle with friends or family.”

Fenestra will release the next vintage of their most popular wine, True Red, Lot 23, as well as the 2008 Torrontes – a wine that was first introduced last year (the 2007 vintage) that went over very well with customers. The other wines of particular focus for the weekend will include Iberian varietals: Verdelho, Alvarelhão, Touriga and Port from Silvaspoons Vineyards.

The official name for the Iberian blend will be announced, stemming from a 2-month-long contest amongst Fenestra’s wine club members, to see who could create the best name for the seven-varietal blend.
