The 2017 grape harvest is winding down and I'm looking forward to a day off or two in the next few weeks and giving my poor car a serious wash. Driving around the valley this time of year it's obvious who's in the production side of the industry as their cars are usually coated in a fine layer of "terroir." The grape quality looks great this year with ideal sugars, acid, and flavors. We're exploring new vineyards for quality fruit and expanding on our Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah programs. We've also harvested a delicious Sauvignon Blanc for the future lineup. One of the vineyards we're trialing this year is the "Collier Canyon" vineyard, the large vineyard above Las Positas College north of I-580. The views from the top of the vineyard are amazing and give a great perspective on the Livermore Valley and all the main vineyards in the distance to the south/southeast. One of the challenges of the Collier Canyon vineyard is the steep terrain. After almost being stuck up there in my poor little old diesel Volkswagen, I've found that driving up the steep hills in reverse is the only solution. Sampling the vineyard is also quite the workout as most of the rows go straight up the hill. I have found myself using the trellis and vines as support to keep my footing on some of the steeper sections. Because of the steep terrain there, the vineyard crews must use tractors with tracks on them instead of normal wheels to traverse the rows. Maybe I should show them the reverse trick! All in all, the new vineyards look promising and I look forward to sharing the wines with you all at future barrel tastings and in the tasting room when they're released. - Aaron Luna

2017 Harvest. We are close to finishing the crush, and it seems to be a good one. We are focusing more on Livermore Valley fruit and are exploring some new vineyards here. In addition to our usual sources, we have gotten grapes from the Ravenswood Vineyard on Arroyo Rd. and the Collier Canyon Vineyard just west of I-580, close to Costco. The latter vineyard is rather steep. As a result of having more sources, we are making the same varietal from multiple vineyards. As an example, we will have Cabernet Sauvignon from 5 different vineyards. After the new wines have aged for 1-2 years, we will assess the separate lots and decide which lots will go into the varietal bottling and the Conjugation blend, and which are to be added to True Red. - Lanny Replogle

At the prestigious Orange County Fair, we won 5 Gold Medals and 4 Silver Medals. Our 5 Gold Medals were more than the total of those won by all other Livermore Valley Wineries! Gold Medal winners were: 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2012 Touriga, 2013 Petite Sirah, 2012 Conjugation, and 2013 Infrared. Silver Medal winners were: 2015 Semillon, 2015 Chardonnay, 2011 Merlot, and the 2014 Mourvedre

Fenestra Winery is celebrating it’s 35th Annual Barrel Tasting Event on President’s Day Weekend, February 17, 18 and 19th.
